Prerequisites
- A Datadog account with API access
- An API Key and Application Key from your Datadog organization
- An OpsBrief account (sign up free)
Step-by-Step Setup
Get Your Datadog API Credentials
Log into your Datadog account and navigate to Organization Settings → API Keys. You'll need both an API Key and an Application Key:
- API Key: Found in Organization Settings → API Keys. Create a new key if needed.
- Application Key: Found in Organization Settings → Application Keys. Create a new key for OpsBrief.
Security note: We recommend creating a dedicated Application Key for OpsBrief with the name "OpsBrief Integration" so you can easily manage and revoke access if needed.
Select Your Datadog Site
Datadog has multiple regional sites. Make sure you know which site your organization uses:
app.datadoghq.com
app.datadoghq.eu
us3.datadoghq.com
us5.datadoghq.com
Navigate to Connections in OpsBrief
After creating your account, go to your dashboard and click on Connections in the sidebar. You'll see Datadog in the list of available platforms.
Enter Your Credentials
Click the "Connect" button next to Datadog. A dialog will appear where you'll enter:
- Your Datadog Site (select from dropdown)
- Your API Key
- Your Application Key
Click "Connect" and OpsBrief will validate your credentials and sync your monitors.
Select Monitors to Track
After connection, navigate to Channels to see all your Datadog monitors. Select which monitors you want to track in your daily digests.
For engineering teams, we recommend monitoring critical production monitors and SLO alerts.

Troubleshooting
Invalid API Key error
Make sure you're using the correct API Key (not Application Key) and that it matches your selected Datadog site. API keys are organization-specific.
I don't see all my monitors
OpsBrief fetches all monitors from your Datadog account. If monitors are missing, verify that your API key has access to them. Some monitors may be restricted by team or organization settings.
Alerts aren't syncing
Datadog data syncs every few minutes. If you've just connected, wait a few minutes and refresh. Make sure the monitors are selected for tracking in your Channels page.
How do I disconnect Datadog?
Go to Connections in your OpsBrief dashboard, find Datadog, and click the trash icon. This will remove the connection but preserve your historical data.
