Optimizing Your Daily Digest

Configure your daily digest to deliver exactly the information you need - no more, no less.

The Goal

Your digest should take 2-3 minutes to read and tell you everything important that happened. If it takes longer, you need fewer channels. If you're missing things, add more.

What You Can Configure

Delivery Time

When you receive your digest each day

  • Schedule 30 minutes before your workday starts
  • Match your timezone for accurate timing
  • Consider your team's standup schedule

Channel Selection

Which channels to include in your personal digest

  • Organization admins choose what to monitor
  • You pick from those for your personal digest
  • Start with 3-5, expand as needed
See channel strategy guide

Event Types

Which event categories to show

  • Different event types per channel
  • Disable noisy types (e.g., minor updates)
  • Keep critical types always enabled
See event types guide

Severity Threshold

Minimum severity level to include

  • All - see everything
  • Medium+ - skip low-priority items
  • High+ - only important events
  • Critical - emergencies only

Optimization Steps

1

Start with defaults

Use the default settings for your first week. This gives you a baseline to understand what's being detected.

2

Review your first digest

After receiving your first digest, ask yourself:

  • Was anything missing that I needed to know?
  • Was there noise that wasn't useful?
  • Did it take too long to read?
3

Adjust channels

Go to My Email Digest and adjust:

  • Add channels you're missing updates from
  • Remove noisy channels
4

Fine-tune event types

For each channel, enable/disable specific event types. Example: keep "Incidents" on #engineering but disable "Deployments" if too noisy.

5

Set severity threshold

If still too noisy, raise your severity threshold. Start with "Medium+" to filter out low-priority items.

Pro Tips

Morning digest, evening summary

Schedule your main digest for morning. Consider a second 'end of day' summary for fast-moving teams.

Different configs for different days

Monday digests might need more detail (catch up on weekend). Friday might need less.

Use the dashboard too

Your digest is a summary. Use the dashboard timeline for deeper exploration when needed.

Iterate weekly

Set a calendar reminder to review and adjust your settings weekly for the first month.
